WYD Rules &
Handicaps

NO Sandbagging!
While we have tried every year to maintain a level of fair play and consistency, WYD Management cannot always control your Sandbagging ways. As a result, we are bringing in some help for WYD.
More details to come, but know that the Sandbag Detetective is on the case!

Handicaps
Contrary to some of the remarks over the years, we do make a VERY serious effort to make the handicap system work for us at WYD. As you can imagine, this is no small task.
-
The ultimate goal is to set up the Handicaps such that they are fair, but understand that you still have to play well (for your ability) to win.
-
As always, we are open to any new ideas to improve the system, as your help is much preferred to your complaining all weekend.
-
If you don't know yours, please make an APPROPRIATE estimation. WYD Management reserves the right to adjust "questionable: handicaps as needed on WYD weekend.
-
For those in need, simple guidelines to help you calculate your handicap can be found here: http://www.ehow.com/how_15107_calculate-golf-handicap.html
WYD Honor Code
WYD Management expects the highest level of honor and honesty both on and of the course.
-
If you don't know the rules... learn them.
-
No "questionable" decisions will help you on your way to victory.
-
To win, you must play well and follow the rules of golf.
-
Behavior otherwise will result in you buying drinks for all of us, along with a stern verbal lashing.
“But in the end it's still a game of golf, and if at the end of the day you can't shake hands with your opponents and still be friends, then you've missed the point. ”
-Payne Stewart
Scramble Format Rules
WYD consists of 3 full rounds of scramble format golf, with the winning teams posting the lowest cumulative three round Net & Gross totals.
-
Each player will hit his tee shot.
-
Each team will choose one ball to play and both players will hit from that location.
-
Teams will continue selecting the “best” ball until they hole out
-
You can “place” the ball you have chosen to play, and the original ball, within one club length of original location.
-
Balls on greens can be placed within one putter head of original ball location.
-
Condition of ball must remain the same. (Rough, sand trap, etc.)
Additional WYD Rules
“The object of Golf is not just to win. It is to play like a gentleman, and win.
-Phil Mickelson
-
Each team will keep score for the other team and scorecards will be reviewed and signed after each round.
-
Mulligans and Gimmies are NOT allowed. Repeat…NOT allowed. The Phrase "it's in the leather" does not apply during Competition WYD rounds.
-
All holes must be played until your ball is in the bottom of the cup. Yes, this means you will be putting those "one footers you always make at home". It's not the same with the pressure of WYD... trust us.
-
"Foot-wedges" or any other such behaviors are strictly prohibited.
Tie Breaker
In the event that two or more teams are tied for first at the end of the regulation three rounds of golf, the following
tie-breaker shall take place:
-
Sudden death putting challenge on the putting green of the final course. (As many holes as needed.)
-
Players may take one ball and one putter each.
-
Distance and hole choice will be through mutual agreement.
-
Both players on each team will play their balls, and the team with the player with the lowest score shall be victorious.
